On this morning’s WJR Business Beat, Jeff shares details of the Motown Musician Accelerator Program, an education and grant initiative designed to help local aspiring musicians and music managers break into business.

The program takes in 10 aspiring artists and 10 aspiring managers who will begin a six-week program and work toward earning a slot for the 12-week intensive workshop program. That includes a $5,000 stipend for managers and a $25,000 grant to each of the artists who make their way to the 12-week program.

WJR Business Beat Transcript

Good morning, Paul!

Today on the Business Beat, we’re focused on what are known as incubator accelerator programs designed to help foster the aspirations of budding entrepreneurs and help them move from dreaming to doing.

Typically, these programs include strategic guidance, access to critical resources, and in some cases, even grants or investment capital, as well.

And here’s a gem of an accelerator program right here in Detroit, now in its third season, offering a unique program focused on the growth of musicians and artists who want to develop a future in the music business, whether as an artist or as a manager.

The program is the Motown Musician Accelerator Program, and it’s just opened its latest 12-week intensive program catering specifically to Detroiters. For those who apply and are accepted to the program, well, they’ll receive education for either the development of their artistic side or for their interest in the business of music, should they want to pursue a career as a manager. They’ll even pair emerging musicians and aspiring managers with professional heavyweights in the music industry to help guide them toward their success.

The program now takes in 10 aspiring artists and 10 aspiring managers who will begin a six-week program and work toward earning a slot for the 12-week intensive workshop program. That includes a $5,000 stipend for managers and a $25,000 grant to each of the artists who make their way to the 12-week program.

So, if you think you’ve got the chops and want to get your groove on, you can learn more and apply by going online to motownmusicianaccelerator.com. The deadline to apply is March 14. This is just yet another example of the wide-ranging opportunities that entrepreneurship offers.

And that’s a wrap! Have a great weekend, everybody.

I’m Jeff Sloan, founder and CEO of StartupNation.com, and that’s today’s Business Beat, brought to you today by Dell Technologies, on the Great Voice of the Great Lakes, WJR.
